“Cork GAA is pleased to announce that Carrigtwohill GAA Club is the winner of the September/October Cork GAA Communications Award powered by Compu b, in association with Silver Springs Moran Hotel.

This new and innovative bi-monthly awards scheme aims to recognise and reward excellence in GAA club communications in Cork, and to provide an incentive for clubs to improve their performance in this area.

This month’s winners collected an Apple iPad, courtesy of sponsors Compu b, which was presented at a function in their honour at Silver Springs Moran Hotel.

Carrigtwohill GAA Club uses a combination of communication methods to reach all who are interested in the club. From members to supporters at home and abroad, to local press and the wider GAA community, the club can keep in touch with everyone to spread news and results and to promote the GAA.

Website
Early in 2012 Carrigtwohill redesigned their club website to create a better online presence to promote the club and communicate with their members and supporters. The website has sub sections for News/Events, Hurling, Football, Juveniles, Camogie, Ladies Football, Club History, Club Gym and Club Lotto. It has a large photo gallery and large archives of match results/reports and other news items. It is regularly updated with fixtures and results and has an online form for managers to send reports directly into the webmaster. The site currently attracts more than 500 visits per week, both local and international.

Social Media
The club is active on both Facebook and Twitter, using these tools to further promote the club’s activities, and particularly to interact with overseas members.  Carrigtwohill also has a YouTube channel to display club videos, and plan to develop this further in the future.

Other Forms of Communication
While electronic forms of communication are key in today’s world, they are not for everyone, and Carrigtwohill GAA Club ensures that all are included in their club’s communications by means of other tools, such as a mobile texting system reaching out to 150 members, posters and the club noticeboard. All news, fixtures and results are submitted weekly to a variety of local communications including the Parish Newsletter and local press to ensure the widest possible promotion of the club’s activities.

Online Shop
Our judges are always on the look-out for that little bit extra being undertaken by clubs , and one important recent development in Carrigtwohill is their new online shop, http://carrigtwohillgaa.com/shop/ . Here members and supporters can order their Carrigtwohill GAA club gear. Customers can pay online or offline and then collect their order in the clubhouse within 2 weeks, and club merchandise is a key element in the promotion of any GAA club.

With such an impressive communications package, and a clear awareness within the club of the importance of this area in promoting GAA activities, Carrigtwohill GAA Club is a worthy winner of the September/October Cork GAA Communications Award, and a model for other clubs in developing their own communications strategies.”
