“If you recently picked up a new Mac, iPhone, iPod, or iPad, you may have seen mention of something called iCloud when setting up your device. If you don’t already know, iCloud is a free syncing and backup service from Apple that aims to keep all of your devices—mobile devices running iOS 5 or later and desktop computers running OS X Lion or later, or Windows Vista or later—on the same page, with the same data, no matter which one you’re using at any given moment.

We’ve written before about what you get with your iCloud account. But what if you’re unsure about how to set up iCloud in the first place and how to get it to work on your Mac, PC, iOS device, and Apple TV? We’ll show you.”http://www.macworld.com/article/2023735/how-to-set-up-icloud.html

According to the W3C, the website will also display the status of a particular technology’s standardisation and cross-browser implementation.

The site exists as a Wiki, allowing employees representing each of the member companies to add their own updates and to contribute to the site. The project has been funded and has a team dedicated to ensuring it is well maintained (the W3C serves as the website’s curator).

Users can interact on the forums or discuss their projects and coding tips on the site’s dedicated IRC channel.

All documents posted to the Web Platform website are licensed under creative commons. While the initial content is provided by the member companies, website visitors are encouraged to share code examples, tips and tricks or any other relevant information using the Wiki.

As Adobe puts it: “It is now up to the web community to help create and maintain the most comprehensive and authoritative reference for web technologies. So, go check it out and start contributing. Document the web!”

iOS 6 will be launched this Wednesday the 19th of September so even if you don’t plan on upgrading to the new iPhone 5 if will feel like you have got a new phone.iOS 6 brings a lot of great features to the phone but notably 2 have been removed. The YouTube app will be removed as a built in app but Google have already released a great new YouTube app in the appstore.

The other app which is removed is Google maps which is replaced by Apple’s own maps app which has turn by turn navigation. The Data comes from Tom Tom and other sources. I have been using this now for a while and can say it is a giant leap forward from the Google maps app. If like me you used your phone as your car GPS and downloaded one of the many navigation apps, You can now remove it and free up some space.

Safety and security by design.

iOS is highly secure from the moment you turn on your device. All apps run in a safe environment, so a website or app can’t access data from other apps. iOS also supports encrypted network communication to protect your sensitive information. To guard your privacy, apps requesting location information are required to get your permission first. You can set a passcode lock to prevent unauthorized access to your device and configure it to delete all your data after too many unsuccessful passcode attempts. And in case your device is lost or stolen, Find My iPhone allows you to locate it on a map and remotely delete all your data. When you get it back, you can restore everything from your last backup.

Accessibility built in.

Accessibility features like Guided Access, VoiceOver, and AssistiveTouch help people with disabilities experience more of what an iOS device has to offer. For example, the built-in VoiceOver screen-reading technology allows those who are blind or have low vision to hear a description of the item they’re touching on the screen. iOS also offers out-of-the-box support for over 30 wireless braille displays and many other award-winning accessibility features, such as dynamic screen magnification, playback of closed-captioned video, mono audio, white on black text, and more.

Works all over the world.

iOS devices are made to be used around the world. Take your pick of 30 languages and easily switch between them. Because the keyboard is software based, you can select from over 50 different layouts with support for language-specific features including diacritic marks on characters and contextual character options for Japanese. In addition, the built-in dictionaries support over 50 languages, VoiceOver reads screens in more than 35 languages, and Voice Control understands over 20 languages.

Ready for business.

Businesses around the world are choosing iOS devices for their enterprise-ready features and powerful security. iOS works with Microsoft Exchange and standards-based servers to deliver over-the-air push email, calendar, and contacts. iOS protects your data by encrypting information in three separate areas: in transmission, at rest on the device, and when backed up to iTunes. You can securely access private corporate networks through industry-standard VPN protocols. And companies can easily deploy iPhone across
an enterprise using configuration profiles.

Ready to learn.

With iOS, iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch become incredible learning tools. Keep track of all your classes and activities using Calendar. Be on time for appointments and study groups thanks to alerts from Reminders. Jot down or dictate lists and ideas with the Notes app. Do research on the web or write an email — even attach a photo or document — with built-in Wi-Fi. Record interviews, reading samples, study guides, or class lectures with Voice Memos. Or find help defining a word, locating the lumbar spine, or practicing French vocabulary from any number of education apps in
the App Store. Learn more about Apple in Education

Apple will take the stage this evening at 6 o’clock Irish time to announce something. That is all we can say officially. What do we expect, The iPhone 5 is the obvious answer but we could also see new iMac’s, iPod’s or even an iPad Mini. Maybe even an iPod nano that you were as a watch that can link to your iPhone. Wouldn’t that be nice. That is the joy of Apple, You never know.

Here is a mockup produced by iLab.cc

The Rumours

4″ Screen – This is pretty much solid, as all other smartphones have gotten bigger screens these days. The question is, will it be just taller or will they make it wider like the other smartphones.

New Dock Connector – Could we be saying goodbye to our friend the 16 pin connector. This would be a big change as everyone would have to get new accessories again or get a converter if one comes out.

Nano-Sim – And we thought the micro sim was small. Apple have been pushing to get rid of the simcard for a long time. They would much prefer to have a built in sim to save on space. Looks like they will have to stick with the sim card for another while yet.

Headphone Jack – Don’t know why they would move this to the bottom of the phone but that is what is being suggested.

iOS 6 – As announced at the WWDC during the summer. This should be available to all this week and come preloaded on any new phone from Wednesday. Click here for more on iOS 6
