1. To get started login to Facebook.

2. Go to this address facebook.com/twitter.

3. Select Your Business Page and click Link To Twitter

4. Login to your Twitter account or Click Authorize App if you are already logged in.

5. Select what updates Facebook will send to Twitter and click save changes.

6. Congratulations, Your Facebook page is now linked to your twitter account.

Now when ever you post an update on Facebook it will also be sent out on Twitter.

Here’s an overview of what’s changed.

Browse easily

Now your columns are arranged in one continuous horizontal row, allowing you to navigate smoothly left and right with the scrollbar.

You can scroll several columns at a time by clicking the arrows either side of the “Columns” button on the top toolbar. You can also click the “Columns” button to reveal the full list of all the columns in your TweetDeck and access any column immediately.

Manage your columns

With the addition of the new Columns button it’s now easier to arrange your columns. With the column drop-down open, simply hover over the “drag” icon to the right of the column name you wish to move, click and drag the column to its new position, then drop.

Act on what’s happening

A menu icon on every Tweet gives you instant access to more Tweet actions, like “Create link”, and user-related actions, like “Block”. This makes it possible report a user for spam, add an account to a list, delete your own Tweet, and much more, all without having to leave your main column view.

This swifter version of TweetDeck is available now at tweetdeck.com, where you can download TweetDeck for Mac and Windows, access the Chrome app or sign in to web.tweetdeck.com.

It makes for an interesting read but makes you wonder where are all the Irish websites? Boards.ie, RTE.ie, and IrishTimes.com. Let me know if you think there is a website that should be in the Top 10.

Google.ie – The local version of this pre-eminent search engine, offering Irish pages as well as world results.

Google.com – Enables users to search the world’s information, including webpages, images, and videos. Offers unique features and search technology.

Facebook.com – A social utility that connects people, to keep up with friends, upload photos, share links and videos.

YouTube.com – YouTube is a way to get your videos to the people who matter to you. Upload, tag and share your videos worldwide!

Definition: The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. It was created organically by Twitter users as a way to categorize messages.

Hashtags: helping you find interesting Tweets

• People use the hashtag symbol # before relevant keywords in their Tweet to categorize those Tweets to show more easily in Twitter Search.
• Clicking on a hashtagged word in any message shows you all other Tweets in that category.
• Hashtags can occur anywhere in the Tweet.
• Hashtagged words that become very popular are often Trending Topics.

Example: Below, @VegNews added the hashtag before the word “vegan” in their message. The word is now a link to search results for all Tweets containing “#vegan” in the message.

Using hashtags

• If Tweet with a hashtag on a public account, anyone who does a search for that hashtag may find your Tweet.
• Don’t #spam #with #hashtags. Don’t over-tag a single Tweet. (Best practices recommend using no more than 3 hashtags per Tweet.)
• Use hashtags only on Tweets relevant to the topic.

First visit www.twitter.com and fill in your information. All they require is Full Name, Email address and select a password.

Next it will check your details and ask you to choose a username. make sure you pick something relevant as this is what people will see. ??

The next few steps it will suggest some interesting Twitter users to follow and it can also check your email address book to see if any of your contacts are on Twitter.

Congratulations you are now a part of twitter.

Going by the Twitter website it describes itself as

“Twitter is a real-time information network that connects you to the latest information about what you find interesting. Simply find the public streams you find most compelling and follow the conversations.

At the heart of Twitter are small bursts of information called Tweets. Each Tweet is 140 characters in length, but don’t let the small size fool you—you can share a lot with a little space. You can tell your story within your Tweet, or you can think of a Tweet as the headline, and use the details pane to tell the rest with photos, videos and other media content.”

To put that is simple terms it is a way of letting the world, be it friends or customers what is going on with you or your business. Twitter is hugely sucscesful as the messages are kept short and to the point. More often than not they will contain a link for further information like a blog post, News articule, Picture or video.

The benifit of this is that your message can be shared quickly and easily.

Example. I will tweet this out on my own twitter account to 100 of my followers. If one of them then retweets (Resends) my tweet it will then go out to all their followers. So my initial tweet could end up reaching 1,000’s of people even though I have only 100 followers. This is the magic of the Viral Effect.
